Greater Spokane Incorporated Leads Group to Olympia to Advocate on Behalf of Eastern Washington.

Greater Spokane Incorporated (the region's Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Council, or GSI for short), Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce, and West Plains Chamber of Commerce, along with 60 business and civic leaders will meet with state legislators in Olympia this week January 13 - 15 to present Eastern Washington's unified agenda. The 2010 Agenda outlines initiatives identified as critical to economic growth for the region.

The delegation will spend its time promoting regional priorities and issues that affect local businesses including education, healthcare, transportation, and workforce needs. This year's Agenda can be found at http://www.greaterspokane.org/images/stories/PDFs/Public_Policy/state-agenda-2010.pdf.

Legislative advocacy at the state level is a year-round activity. The region's agenda is put together with community partners starting in the summer months and is released at the Legislative Forum and Reception in December. Past accomplishments have included $37 million in funding for Spokane regional education, transportation, and civic projects, supplemental Medicaid funding for Spokane hospitals, and the establishment of a first year medical school in Spokane.

For more information on the annual trip to Olympia, including a detailed itinerary of this year's trip and position papers describing the priorities carried by the delegation, please contact Dawn Picken at Greater Spokane Incorporated at 321.3614 or dpicken@greaterspokane.org.
