In good times, opening a restaurant is a struggle. Why would Chris and Gary Swiss, who retired and moved to Spokane to be close to family, open a restaurant? They say their only valid reason is because they must be CRAZY. That's how their new restaurant, Crazy G's, acquired its name, named after Gary. Crazy G's just opened at 821 North Division, next to Jewelry Design Center. It's unique because they offer real char broiled burgers, chicken and hot dogs just like you would get at a backyard BBQ. And they serve hand-made, real, ice cream shakes. So far customers are crazy about the food at Crazy G's and business is great. They're open Monday through Saturday from 10:30am to 9:00pm. The phone number is 509-315-8943 and the website is crazygs.com.

The Spokane Shock arena football team is in the afl2 playoffs once again, playing the Stockton Lightning this Saturday night at 7 in the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena. The outstanding success of Brady Nelson's Spokane Shock on the field and at the box office has given the sports company an opportunity to expand. Nelson has developed a mixed martial arts business, named Arena Rumble, to bring more sports entertainment to the inland northwest. On Saturday, September 12 the group presents their first event, (and the first major professional MMA event in the Arena), a Mixed Martial Arts lineup of action packed fights presented by TapouT. The sport of Mixed Martial Arts has experienced rapid growth after having moved from underground events to sanctioned/regulated matches. A Sports Illustrated cover story in May 2007, proclaimed MMA America's fastest growing sport and noted it has a "choke-hold" on the 18-34 year old male demographic. The average growth rate over the past four years is nearly 390% in terms of hours of monthly MMA television programming. Arena Rumble offers a variety of new sponsorship opportunities and group ticket sales. For more information, contact Kathy Bevan at 509-242-7464 or email kbevan@arenarumble.com.
