Continued Support for Spokane Tribe of Indians' proposed West Plains Economic Development project

Facts and history continue to bring support to the Spokane Tribe of Indians proposed mixed-use development plans on the West Plains of Spokane County. In an editorial by the former chairman of the National Indian Gaming Commission, Harold Monteau, writes: "The Spokane Tribe of Indians should have its Spokane, Washington area lands approved for purposes of Indian gaming. They deserve to be treated no differently than the Kalispel Tribe has been treated and, in fact, may be more deserving in some respects. As chairman of the National Indian Gaming Commission, I supported the Kalispel Tribe's right to game on its Airway Heights property; I now do the same for the Spokane Tribe". Mr. Monteau's editorial appears in this week's Indian Country Today newspaper.

Gregory Abrahamson, Spokane Tribal Business Council Chairman commends Mr. Monteau's public words of support. Abrahamson continues by saying, "it's great to see public support with the Spokane Tribe's development plans. The Spokane Tribe has been on a long journey to become self-sufficient. And the additional support from outside of the Spokane Tribe shows that the tribe is on the right path for its tribal members and the good of our neighbors.

The Spokane Tribe of Indians proposed mixed-use development includes 145-acreas of land on the West Plains of Spokane County. The property sits upon the ancestral homelands of the Spokane Tribe of Indians.
