The polls are open!

Spokane voters are casting their mail-in ballots for the 2010 Washington Primary election which concludes August 17. And this year we have some very interesting, contentious races to watch at all levels, county, state and federal. Thanks to all the candidates who have stepped up to run campaigns. They are all bolstering the local economy with billboards; signs; direct mail; radio, television and newspaper advertising. Be sure to vote by August 17.

NW Map and Travel moves to Spokane Valley.

NW Map and Travel has moved from their long time downtown location at Sprague and Howard to 10525 East Sprague near Evergreen in Spokane Valley. The new shop gives owners Linda and Steve Mitrovich a chance to work closer to home. For over 25 years NW Map and Travel has offered this region’s most impressive source of maps of all kinds, including historic maps; marine and river maps and charts; local regional and world maps; metro and geologic maps as well as topographical maps on CD Rom. Sushi and more at River Park Square

River Park Square has announced three new tenants: Sushi Maru, Auntie Anne's Pretzels and AT&T Authorized Dealer. Sushi Maru will open its first Inland Northwest restaurant this fall; they also have a location in Bellevue. Guests will select freshly prepared, traditional and creative sushi from plates as they pass by on a conveyer system that travels through the restaurant. They anticipate being open for the holiday season on the main level across from Rock City Grill, replacing Sawtooth Grill which closed last Saturday. Auntie Anne's Pretzels, a fresh pretzel eatery, will open on the second level across from Sandwich Gardens in August. AT&T Authorized Dealer will move from its second floor kiosk in mid August to a store on River Park Square's third level near Claire's.

New restaurant sure to be a blockbuster.

Savory is a new restaurant, with a high profile chef from LA, being developed at 1314 S. Grand, in the former Blockbuster location. Steve Herrmann, who is relocating to Spokane, spent 22 years working with Wolfgang Puck. A mid-September opening is planned for the restaurant which will have seating for 190 diners, including a large patio. Eric Klamper is their marketing director.

Raleigh Johnston joins Cornerstone.

Cornerstone Property Advisors recently welcomed Raleigh Johnston to their team as Commercial Real Estate Agent. Johnston has over 20 years of direct and indirect sales experience and a strong background in restaurant sales and leasing. He has marketed properties for local and national tenants over the years, including Little Caesars, Ben & Jerry's & Dollar Tree. Johnston has worked in Spokane's commercial market for over five years now, and in the past has worked as General Manager for several restaurants including Indian Canyon Golf Club.

Josh King looking for rain.

Doyle's Ice Cream reopening soon.

There's a buzz in Spokane's West Central neighborhood about Doyle's Ice Cream shop reopening. The quaint ice cream parlor, a landmark business at Boone and Nettleton since the 1950's, which has been closed for several years, has been cleaned up and there is a sign on the door that they'll be reopening soon. McKinstry expands Spokane office.

McKinstry, a full-service design, build, operate and maintain (DBOM) firm, which started operations in Spokane in 2002, has announced plans to expand in the City of Spokane, with long-range plans to add 100 new jobs. McKinstry, with over 1,600 employees nationwide and over $400 million in annual revenues, currently has two locations in the Spokane area, but will consolidate both groups into the 103-year-old Great Northern Building located at 802 E. Spokane Falls Blvd in the University District.
