Rob McCann receives Providence Humanitarian Award



On October 10, Providence Health Care held its 25th annual Sister Peter Claver Humanitarian Award ceremony at the Spokane Convention Center. The 2017 award recipient is Rob McCann, Ph. D., executive director of Catholic Charities Eastern Washington. Elaine Couture, Providence Health Care chief executive said, "Like Sister Peter Claver, Rob is vigilant to ensure resources are provided in the area of greatest need in our community: food, shelter, clothing, education, and counseling. Rob's compassion for others who suffer; whether in body, mind or spirit, truly leads his work and is at the very core of who he is."

Rob serves the most vulnerable in our region. Under Rob's leadership, Catholic Charities has built nearly 1,000 residences for the homeless and poor, served thousands weekly in the house of charity and day care facilities and personally delivered food and supplies to disaster victims. Rob has also supported mental health needs through various programs. Providence is honored to recognize Rob for his extraordinary efforts with this award.


Christmas Tree Elegance begins Nov 28



Christmas Tree Elegance is an annual fundraiser produced by the Spokane Symphony Associates to benefit the Spokane Symphony Orchestra. 2017 marks the 35th presentation of this spectacular holiday event.

There are 12 decorated Christmas trees with gifts and Old World Father Christmas, located on the mezzanine level of the historic Davenport Hotel. The trees at the Davenport Hotel are available to be viewed from Tuesday, November 28 thru Saturday, December 9. Ticket sales end at 9pm, Saturday, December 9. Tree Winner Drawing to follow.

There are 6 additional decorated Christmas trees with gifts, located on the second floor of River Park Square, at Main and Post. These trees can be viewed daily from 10am until Mall Closing from Tuesday, November 28 thru Sunday, December 10. Ticket sales end at 4pm, Sunday, December 10. Tree Winner Drawing to follow.

SCORE Workshop on Cybersecurity Nov 29

Spokane SCORE Chapter 180 presents this week's workshop, Cybersecurity for small business this Wednesday, November 29. Small Businesses are at high risk to the threat caused by cybercriminals. This workshop will provide you with both an understanding of the threat and resources and tools that you can use to mitigate risks.

Santa Breakfast at Southside Senior & Community Center



Santa Claus is coming back to Southside Senior & Community Center with his sleigh and reindeer for breakfast and photos. Breakfasts dates are Saturday, December 2, 9 & 16 from 9am--12 noon.

A full hot breakfast will be available: $7 for adults, $3 for children and children under age 5 eat free. Pictures are $5 or $10 (depending on size) for each photo and must be paid for in advance. Reservations needed, call 509-535-0803.


Salvation Army Adopt a Family Program Underway

The Adopt a Family Program serves the 48+ homeless families who currently live at The Salvation Army Shelter or Transitional Housing Stepping Stones program, as well as the recently homeless families that have spent time either in The Salvation Army Emergency Shelter or Transitional Housing Program (Stepping Stones). These families have now been supported to the point that they are able to move in to their own homes/apartments. Case managers continue to work with them in the After-Care Program to make sure they stay stable and on their feet. Families moving into a new home and learning to make ends meet with new bills and a limited income need, and greatly appreciate the support of the Salvation Army's Christmas Adopt a Family program.

Jenna Strohmeyer named Associate at Winston & Cashatt



Winston & Cashatt Lawyers has announced their newest associate, Jenna Strohmeyer. Jenna focuses her practice on municipal, land use, and environmental law, as well as general civil litigation. Her practice includes a wide array of issues ranging from zoning, permitting, and code enforcement issues, to personal injury, property disputes, and landlord tenant matters.


New hires at ALSC Architects



Dan Phelps has joined ALSC a Revit Specialist with over 27 years in the industry. Dan is assisting with projects including the City of Airway Heights Community Recreation Center and the Whitworth University Athletic Leadership Center.

Alexander Wolfe has joined ALSC as an Architectural Intern. He earned his Master of Architecture from Washington State University in 2017. Alex is applying his design and graphics expertise to projects for Central Valley School District and Cheney School District.
