So much to be thankful for!

As we pause this Thanksgiving holiday to celebrate gratitude, let us think about all that we have to appreciate. Although there is much discord and disagreement in our country, there is much to be grateful for, so let's focus on that - our families, our service people stationed around the world protecting our freedom, the opportunity a free market offers our businesses, our thriving region which has new, exciting companies opening up all the time.

We are especially thankful for all of you, the readers of How's Business. Thank you very much for your support and encouragement. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

Catered for You announced as BBB Business of the Year

Better Business Bureau Serving the Northwest has announced Catered for You as Eastern Washington/Northern Idaho's Business of the Year for 2017. The Spokane-based business has shown commitment to ethics, integrity and building trust among their staff, customers and community.

Linette and Romeo Herrera established Catered for You in 1985 and for 32 years have provided exceptional catering combined with excellent service in the region. BBB also honored Eastern Washington/Northern Idaho's finalists:   Millrich Associates LLP and StreetRodz Unlimited, LLC.

BBB Torch Awards is a local, independently judged, peer-reviewed, rigorous competition.  Recipients were evaluated by independent, voluntary panels of judges comprised of  business and community leaders.  Make sure to follow  BBB's Facebook page  for pictures and videos  of the winners receiving their award.

Spokane Public Radio is inviting the public to participate in StoryCorps' Great Thanksgiving Listen 2017, encouraging people of all ages to connect with family members across generations with their new mobile app. This free app allows users to record the stories of their family members, add photos, videos and other visual elements, and upload them for archiving in the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress.

Dave Isay, Founder and President of StoryCorp says, "Students will come away from the project having experienced firsthand the power of listening to bring people together." The Wall Street Journal wrote: "Imagine it: During the holidays, instead of using gadgets to ignore each other, we might use them as an excuse to look each other in the eye and listen."

SPR Holiday Programming: In addition to national holiday-themed programming on KPBX, 91.1, The Bookshelf will feature local stories from the live storytelling event, 'Pivot,' on Monday - Wednesday from 6:30-7pm.
