Spokane Symphony/Fox Executive Director Nienhouse Moving On After a Decade

Brenda Nienhouse will be leaving her ten-year position leading the region's largest and most active professional performing arts organization. She will take a job as Executive Director for the Newport Performing Arts Center in Rhode Island next month.

Nienhouse became Executive Director of the Spokane Symphony and its historic theater, Martin Woldson Theater at The Fox in 2005. The Symphony has undergone a cultural renaissance under Nienhouse's leadership, including cutting edge collaborations with local indie bands and alternative venues, innovative partnerships with the Spokane Public Schools, Spokane Civic Theater, and the Spokane International Film Festival, as well as cultural exchanges with the Spokane Tribe, all while the orchestra's reputation has continued to rise.

Nienhouse was responsible for completing the $30+ million capital campaign and overseeing the renovation of what has become Spokane's national award-winning Art Deco jewel and the Symphony's new home in 2007. She redefined what an orchestra means to a community when she became the first in Spokane to pair New Markets and Historic Tax Credits to help fund the restoration. Her creative financing solution was considered trailblazing at the time, and still serves as a national model.
Best of luck to Brenda!

Leland's Barbershop Makes Move into a Temporary Location

Leland's has already moved out of their location on Wall Street and is currently operating in a temporary space on the first floor next to Pottery Barn. Claudia Kirkebo, owner of Leland's Barbershop, moved her shop into the shopping center to accommodate the demolition and expansion of the current building for the new Urban Outfitters store.

Lake City Development Company Renames / Rebrands

Lake City Development Corporation's Board of Commissioners (LCDC), Coeur d'Alene's urban renewal agency, has announced they are renaming and rebranding their organization in an effort to better connect with the community. The new name is ignite cda. After conducting a public perception and awareness survey through Robinson Research last year, the Board of Commissioners realized how little public awareness existed for the agency. Yet, several of the projects the agency helped bring to the community are viewed as highly favorable by those polled, such as The Salvation Army Kroc Community Center, Riverstone and the Coeur d'Alene Public Library.

The name, ignite cda, was selected as it is symbolic of the 'energy' the agency has helped create through their projects. In several cases, the tax base for an area housing these projects is 10x what it was prior to LCDC's involvement. The purpose of ignite cda is to bring together resources to develop a diverse, sustainable community with healthy neighborhoods, a vibrant central city, a strong regional economy, sustainable, public open spaces, quality jobs and housing for all.

Northwest Specialty Hospital the Only Five Star-Rated Hospital in North Idaho

In April 2015, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ranked more than 3,500 hospitals nationwide on a series of patient-ranked criteria. Of those hospitals, just over 250 hospitals received a Five Star rating for Patient Satisfaction. Northwest Specialty Hospital was the only hospital in North Idaho to receive the Five Star rating. These scores reflect a composite of 11 individual measures of the patient experience that are provided to each patient after discharge in a survey called the HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) Survey.

The HCAHPS Survey has been endorsed by the National Quality Forum, which is a national organization that represents the consensus of many healthcare providers, consumer groups, professional associations, purchasers, federal agencies and research organizations. Implemented by the Department of Health and Human Services in 2008, it serves to enhance accountability in healthcare by increasing the transparency of the quality of hospital care.

Northwest Specialty Hospital, located in Post Falls, Idaho, is owned and operated by local physicians. Established in 2003, it is one of only 238 physicians-owned and operated facilities in the United States. The connection that the physicians at Northwest Specialty Hospital have with their patients provides firsthand feedback on what patients want and need, allowing the hospital to provide better patient care.
