RLHC Design Center Opens in Denver

RLHC (Red Lion Hotels Corporation) has announced the company is opening a satellite office complete with model guest rooms for Hotel RL by Red Lion, Red Lion Hotels, Red Lion Inn & Suites. Located at 1550 Market Street, Suite 500, in Denver, the RLHC Design Center serves as office space for the company's Denver-based associates and a showroom for potential and current hotel owners, and a design center.

"Denver is a central U.S. city and easy to reach from most other cities, making it an ideal location in which to meet current and prospective owners and to recruit and retain talent with hospitality experience," said RLHC President & CEO Greg Mount. "This particular downtown Denver neighborhood, the LoDo district, is a perfect fit for our design center as it is up and coming. We believe our unique office concept brings to life the brand imaging we have created over the past year."

The RLHC Design Center is located in the historic lower Downtown Denver, or LoDo, on the fifth floor of the LEED certified 16M building at 16th Street Mall and Market Street. The 16M building is a mixed use development with luxury apartments, office space and restaurant space. The RLHC Design Center is an open concept workspace combined with glass walled meeting rooms and three model upscale and midscale hotel rooms. Initially, about a dozen RLHC associates will work out of this office space with the Lodging Development team using the space to host meetings with prospective owners.

Ridpath Neon Sign Glows Again

The large neon sign atop downtown Spokane's Ridpath Tower has been brought back to life with the help of a unique effort to identify, preserve and restore Spokane's historic neon signs. Light 'em Up!, a cooperative and community-based program sponsored by Spokane Arts, worked with sign owners and Ridpath developers Ron Wells, Paul Mann and Mark Mackin, to repair and relight the sign on the landmark Sprague Avenue building.

The bright red sign attached to the 12-story Ridpath Tower has been a fixture on the city's skyline for decades. But it went dark more than six years ago as the Ridpath fell into disrepair and eventual bankruptcy. Light 'em Up! approached the developers earlier this year with a plan to preserve and repair the sign. Light 'em Up! shared the restoration costs with the developers; local neon artist and Light 'em Up! technical advisor Ken Yuhasz provided specialized expertise for the project.

"Our hats are off to Spokane Arts and Light 'em Up!," says Ridpath Developer Ron Wells. "We're very happy that we've able to get the sign back up and running and retain a large part of Spokane's history." Wells and his partners own the Ridpath sign as well as the building's top two floors and a portion of the structure at street level. They are working to gain control of the rest of the former hotel which will be converted into apartments.

"Saving the Ridpath sign is a great example of how creative partnerships can boost the arts in Spokane and preserve an important piece of our culture," Laura Becker, Spokane Arts executive director says. "We know this is the first of many successes that Spokane Arts and Light 'em Up! will share. "

Light 'em Up! is also working with Spokane's DCI Engineers to refurbish a 50-year-old neon sign that will be remounted on the company's 2nd Avenue building when current remodeling project is finished later this summer.
