It's called GRAND for a reason! What a hotel!

Last Thursday evening I had the opportunity to tour the construction site of the Grand Spokane Hotel led by Walt Worthy. All I can say is WOW! It is going to be like nothing we have ever seen in Spokane!

Grand Spokane Hotel is 17 stories with 716 rooms and suites, and every bed in the hotel is king size. There will be 3 restaurants and a coffee shop. There is about 70,000 square feet of banquet space including an 18,000 square foot ball room. The hotel has an outdoor meeting area overlooking the INB and Riverfront Park. There will be over 900 parking spaces with over 600 open to the public. All four of the hotels are a member of Marriott's Autograph Collection, but will be managed by the Davenport team.

The massive building has about 40 million pounds of concrete including 4500 pieces of precast from Central-Oldcastle. They will set the last piece today and the plan is to get the roof completed this next week.

Second Trader Joe's coming to Spokane on the north side

The big news last week is that we have a new Trader Joe's coming to the north side, moving into a 12,000 square foot space that's being vacated by Rite-Aid at Franklin Park Mall. Their Lincoln Heights location does fantastic business. It will be the 23rd Trader Joe's in Washington state and it's scheduled to open in the second half of next year. Trader Joe's opened in 1967 in Pasadena, California. The chain opened its first location outside of California in 1993 and now has more than 415 stores nationwide.

Kitchen Spokane: Spokane's Food Business incubator growing by leaps and bounds

Early this year, Spokane's only Food Business incubator opened its doors, featuring a fully stocked commercial kitchen for entrepreneurs, caterers, and small businesses in the food and agriculture business to rent for their personal use. The kitchen is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and is a fully-approved facility by both the Spokane Regional Health District and the Washington State Department of Agriculture, meeting the necessary guidelines for all food processing requirements.

Quickly outgrowing its existing facility, Kitchen-Spokane has expanded beyond the capabilities of its existing 800 square foot space, and is now moving into a brand new custom-built facility in the Spokane Valley. The new location is at 1014 N Pines will open December 1st. The new 2,500 square foot facility will be over four times the size of their previous facility and boasts a loading dock and plenty of storage for refrigeration and dry storage.

Kitchen-Spokane offers small food businesses an impressive array of commercial kitchen equipment available for use by small start-up businesses the chance to realize their dreams of success. Some locally established food businesses are currently using the facility to operate their businesses at a fraction of the cost of owning their own storefronts, helping them maintain high profits and keep their overhead costs low. The kitchen's operator, Jayme Cozzetto, says their goal is to help these food businesses grow towards economic self-sufficiency, and there are loan referral programs to help many of the startups get up and running.
