Andrea Broemmeling is Wonders of the World's new manager

Andrea Broemmeling has been named the new manager for Wonders of the World, the unique shop in the Flour Mill. She's been working at Wonders for the last 7 years. She'll manage the business and their 10 employees. Shop owner Pamela Barclay reports she and her staff have just returned from their biggest buying trip of the year and they have a lot of new, interesting merchandise to sell.

On November 3, 1992 owner Pamela Barclay opened Wonders of the World in 699 sq ft of space in the Flour Mill on the main floor. Wonders is a world import shop that has something for everyone, art, sculpture, fossils, crystals, minerals, toys, gemstones, beads. Prices range from 25 cents to 25 thousand dollars. Pamela's criteria for merchandise is that it has to be unique and different.

In 1996 Wonders had already outgrown their space and expanded into a neighboring store's spot, essentially having two stores. 1997, 'Annie' came to live at Wonders of the World. 'Annie', the actual skeleton of a 50,000 year old Russian cave bear, was named for Dolores Anne Fischer, the first manager of Wonders of the World, who is responsible for talking owner Pamela Barclay into buying the artifact from its owner, a Russian Paleontologist.

The entire main floor of the Flour Mill was remodeled in 2001 and Wonders' two shops became one. In 2004, Beads were given their very own shop across the hall from the main shop and Wonders was back to being two shops again.

Spokane Public Radio's 'Done in One' Fund Drive Approaches

KPBX FM Radio's next 'Done in One' fund drive is Thursday, March 13. Throughout the day, SPR hosts and volunteers will ask for listener support on KPBX, KSFC, and KPBZ. The station's Spring Challengers promise a dollar-for-dollar new member match for the day. Last spring, SPR heeded public opinion and switched from traditional weeklong fund drives to one day drives in an attempt to increase donations without interrupting programming. This radical change has been greeted by an outpouring of listener gratitude, according to CFO Linda Stowe. However, the number of new members gained from fund drives has dropped drastically in the past few years.

New members are vital to the future of the station and help maintain an effective operational budget. This allows SPR to continue offering free and easy access to important news, information, and culture to over 750,000 people in our region.

If you listen to SPR, call and pledge your support to keep the station you love up and running. For more information, visit spokanepublicradio.org or call 1-800-328-5729.

'Girl Rising' is an impactful film that raises awareness to women's injustices.
