Needful Things Furniture, Decor & More to collect School Supplies for Spokane's Salvation Army

Needful Things located at 1802 E. Sprague Avenue will be collecting school supply donations for the Spokane's Salvation Army for those in need in our community. Spokane's Salvation Army starts early on this because they anticipate helping over 3,500 children in need of school supplies this school year. In 2009, they served 1,600 children, 2010, they served 1,987 children and in 2011, they served over 3,000 children. They need school supplies to fill those bins, but most of all they need backpacks. The Salvation Army says they run out of backpacks every year and that's the most expensive part of the supply pack.

Needful Things will be collecting school supply donations in store beginning tomorrow, and ending Saturday, August 11. Store hours - Tues, Wed, Fri 10:00 to 3:00, Thurs 10:00 to 6:00, Sat 10:00 to 4:00. As Needful Things' way of saying 'Thank you for your donation', they will pay the sales tax on your purchase made in store on the day of your donation. For more information contact Michele Lage, Needful Things - Furniture, Decor & More at 509-951-9573.

Interface College Spokane to offer Medical Assisting

Interface College-Spokane is expanding program offerings to include Medical Assisting to meet current employment demands locally and nationally. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects medical assistant employment growth of 30.9 percent through 2018, making it one of the fastest growing occupations in healthcare. The field is expected to be adding 162,900 more jobs due to an aging population and the government's commitment to providing health care to a broader generation of people.

Currently, 1 out of every 5 jobs in Spokane is in the health care field. The Medical Assistant program (MOA/MA) at Interface College-Spokane will prepare graduates for employment opportunities in private physicians' offices, clinics and group practices. Medical Assistants are vital in the day-to-day operations and perform a broad range of both clinical and administrative duties; from collecting patient vital signs and blood pressure to managing an office.

Medical Assistant ranks high on U.S. News & World Report top 50 job list for 2012, listing both rapid job growth and professional fulfillment as factors to the high ranking. Applications to the Medical Assistant program are now being accepted with the first class starting at the end of August. Northern Quest Resort & Casino expands River's Edge Buffet

The newly expanded River's Edge Buffet inside Northern Quest Resort & Casino will hold its Grand Opening today. With a nearly $1 million expansion and remodel, guests dining at River's Edge will notice new menu offerings, reinventions of classic favorites and options for open, private or semi-private dining.

With new decor, a private dining room that seats 24 guests and elevated seating in some areas, the River's Edge Buffet will spread out over 11,000 square feet (an increase of more than 4,500 square feet) and will seat more than 450 guests. River's Edge servers will separate themselves from the traditional by providing a more personalized service, offering to retrieve additional helpings of each guest's favorite items (if they desire) and full tableside beverage service.

One of the most exciting new additions to the buffet includes a Mt. Adams Stone Hearth Oven, allowing our chefs to create signature thin-crust pizzas. The culinary team will bake gourmet and traditional pizzas with flavors enhanced by their Woodstone oven method of baking. All pizza crusts, flatbreads and Focaccia breads will be made with locally sourced Shepard's Grain flour, milled in Spokane from wheat crops grown near Reardan, Wash.

The new buffet will also include four 'action stations,' where chefs will interact with guests while they're making dining selections. The action stations include a carving station, pizza station, grilling area (for custom omelets at breakfast and brunch and steaks cooked to order in the evenings) and dessert station. The chefs have reinvented the buffet dessert list and will include some old favorites as well as some exciting new 'single-serve' items arranged in beautiful displays.

The River's Edge Buffet is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week from 7 am to 10 pm. The popular Seafood Night will now be held three days a week instead of two - on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Sunday brunch, featuring a chocolate fountain, will be held from 7 am to 3:30 pm. For additional details, visit northernquest.com.
