Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children's Hospital has announced that construction on a new Emergency Department will begin next week.
The expansion of Spokane's busiest Emergency Department (ED) will include more than 14,000 new square feet and the remodeling of nearly 4,000 square feet of existing space. A number of features will enhance the care Sacred Heart provides to both children and adults in need of triaging and treatment, including:
• completely separate treatment areas for adult and pediatric patients and families;
• 15 additional emergency exam rooms;
• a psychiatry triage room for pediatric patients;
• a seven-room mental health care holding area for adults;
• a dedicated trauma room for children
• a kids' clubhouse for siblings of pediatric patients and children of adult patients;
• an atrium and coffee bar; and
• larger, more comfortable waiting areas.
Construction is expected to last 17 months, with a total cost of $18.6 million. Mahlum Architects of Seattle and Bouten Construction of Spokane are partnering on the project. The first step in construction will be the creation of a new temporary entrance. Patients will still come to the same general location, near the corner of 8th Avenue and Division Street, and because parking will be limited, Sacred Heart is providing valet services for patients and families needing emergency care.
In 1996 Huckleberry's Natural Market became Spokane's first full-service natural foods store, offering a full selection of natural and organic produce, seafood, meats, dairy products and pre-packaged foods. They set the standard for offering expert advice, working with local farmer/vendors, and truly helping customers live a healthy lifestyle with natural supplements and body care products.
Almost 15 years later, Huckleberry's continues to lead the way with their stance on fair-trade and environmental issues, support of local growers and producers, and expert employees.
Commitment to Local Vendors - The Pacific Northwest Local Vendor Program designates the hundreds of locally grown or produced products on the Huckleberry's shelves. Just look for the purple PNW stickers.
Commitment to Eco-Friendly Alternatives - Not only was Huckleberry's one of the first in the area to offer a full selection of earth-friendly and phosphate-free cleaning products to our customers, they also use them in the store and the Bistro. That's just the beginning; the store composts, recycles, and uses energy efficient appliances and light bulbs.
Commitment to Natural & Organic Experts - Huckleberry's is not only a grocery store, but a lifestyle, one that is strongly shared by many employees who have been a part of the team since the beginning; Lou Anne Moxcey, Mike Moir, Judi Miller, Shane Crawford, Regine Sieber, Nathan (Thai) Le, Donna Greger and Monica Hampton (Store Manager). All of these folks are dedicated to bringing the best in organic and natural living to all customers, and are truly experts in their fields.
Commitment to the Community - As a local business, Huckleberry's is committed to giving back to the community. Ongoing community support includes the Grocery Rescue Program, the Women's & Children's Free Restaurant, the 60,000 lb. Food Challenge for Second Harvest, the Annual Goodwill Donation Drive, Take a Bite out of Hunger and more.
